Student Leadership Conference 2021

Recent world events have shown us just how important community is, but also how fragile it can be. How can we lead in a way that strengthens the communities in which we live? Whether we are thinking about our local, national or global community, we want to be leaders who both work with others and take individual responsibility. At SLC we will be exploring the role of Biblical faith, hope and love in building authentic community, and the courage that will be needed for us to lead in this way with the theme "Leading for Community".

We are committed to providing a quality, in-person event this year for your student leadership team! There is significant reason to hope that travel will be possible and so ACSI has reserved space at the beautiful Zichy-Vajta Conference Center in Hungary for a group of 200 people on-site. Be sure to register now while space is available as there will be only 1 event from September 22-25.

COVID regulations and recommendations

We will provide updates to this page as soon as we have new information. The Vajta conference center will not require masks or vaccinations for participants who attend SLC under an educational initiative. If any participant shows symptoms of COVID during SLC, a quick test will be required immediately in order to manage any spread of disease. In the case of any positive COVID test results, that participant will need to immediately leave the conference to either return home (if private transportation is available) or move to a quarantine location off-site. ACSI will provide clear options for transportation and locations for quarantine, but each school group will need to have a plan in place in the case that 1 or more participants test positive for COVID with funds to provide for travel and accommodation.

Here are our recommendations as you prepare to attend SLC 2021 in person:

  1. Test each participant within 48 hours of leaving home to attend SLC. If anyone tests positive or has been recently exposed to COVID, they must stay at home.
  2. Bring at least 1 self-test with you for each participant. Bring more self-tests, if you have extra available to you. ACSI will have a limited number of tests available on site.
  3. If you are coming with only 1 chaperone, develop a plan with your school and the parents of your students in the case that 1 or more of your students (or you as a chaperone) tests positive during SLC.
  4. Adequate insurance is very important! You must confirm with each student that their medical expenses will be covered in the case of COVID related illness. ACSI will require this information before arriving at SLC.
  5. Be sure to follow the protocol of your school and your country regarding travel with students and the regulations for leaving and reentering your country. These regulations are different for each country but have been carefully thought through and put in place for your safety.
  6. This information was last updated on June 8, 2021.

All SLC registrations must be received by September 5. On-site participation cannot be guaranteed for registrations after June 30. Online participation is also available.

Registration, as of June 8, includes 94 participants on-site and 16 online. We will continue to plan for a live event with a maximum participation of 200 participants. Online participation will be possible but will follow the live schedule, providing limited options for student discussion groups and workshops and live video feeds of the main sessions.

Registration is required as soon as you can provide a chaperone name and a potential number of participants. Please pay for your SLC participation as soon as you can confirm your attendance! This will guarantee space for your group at this year's event. Our desire is to serve your school through student leadership training. It will be important to work with your student team now to prepare for whatever type of participation is possible for your school.

SLC begins Wednesday afternoon and ends with breakfast on Saturday, giving students the opportunity to process and discuss the information in a relaxed setting where they can interact with Christian students from many backgrounds and cultures.

register REGISTRATION online (until September 5).

     September 22-25, 2021 (ages 13-18)

You must have an active ACSI school membership or a special invitation to register.

Program for 13-18 year old students:
We have an SLC program which ensures that the experience for each grade level is appropriate and of the best quality. Students from age 13-15 are provided with their own workshops and discussion groups designed specifically for their needs, introducing them to the foundations of biblical leadership and the character qualities on which to build. Students from age 16 and up have discussion groups and workshops specifically for their age group as well.

We also provide training for older students who want to work and lead activities and discussions with the younger students. High school students who want to serve as discussion group leaders for either age group must participate in a short online training course beginning in early September.

Student Selection:
It is very important to begin your student selection well in advance. Please consider now how this will be done so that it most benefits your students and your school as a whole.

The graduated pricing serves to encourage schools to think about selecting students early so that they will be better prepared for this event.  We have many ideas for helping you prepare your students for SLC. We want each student to get the most out of this event, which can only happen with your excellent support, teaching and prayer. NOTE: We require contact information for student discussion leaders because they must participate in a short online training course BEFORE the conference.

Pricing and Registration:

  • Register as soon as possible! We must be able to plan the event based on your availability.
  • Registration prices are per person: 170 Euro for western Europe and international schools, 180 or 190 Euro for private or single rooms.
  • Subsidized rates are available for Hungarian, Romanian, Czech, Slovak, Polish and other central and eastern Europe schools (from 65 to 85 Euros per participant).

Leadership Conversations

Discussing leadership ideas must connect us to changes in our attitudes, conversations and behavior. We invite high school or university students from our member schools, especially those who have attended SLC, to join these conversations.

Intellectual Character Development

Since scripture’s command to love God includes loving God with our minds, Christians are concerned not only with the development of our moral character, but also our intellectual character – the habits of our thinking.  And since schools are places that promote thinking, the character of that thinking should be of high importance to Christian educators.
