ACSI Europe Events in Romania - October 2024

Conferences for Christian school leaders and teachers in Romania this fall included a regional teacher event and a special event for school leaders. This summarizes the events with some key points. The participants who gathered benefited greatly from their time together and collaboration in learning.

Romanian Administrators Conference (October 24-25)
"Effective Collaborative Leadership"precept 24

25 school leaders gathered at the beautiful Precept Ministries center in Surduc to explore the topics presented in Standard 2 of the "Christian School Improvement Platform" CSIP which focuses on Leadership and Personnel. The aim was to support school leaders in their important role as leader of a team of professional educators.  This role has many facets, like the different faces of a diamond. The informative presentations and lively group discussions centered on topics such as:
  • Pastoral leadership of teachers
  • Building the capacity of teachers
  • Giving and receiving feedback
We were also blessed by times of worship together through singing, hearing from other schools, and fellowship over meals and coffee.  We are very grateful to Mrs. Liz Rauca who coordinated the event, and the staff at Precept Ministries who hosted us.

Romanian Teachers Conference (October 26)
"The Teacher-Leader in the Classroom"

Almost 200 teachers joined us at "Harul" Baptist Church in Lugoj for a day of exploring their role as leaders in their classrooms. The plenary sessions, delivered by ACSI Europe Director Laci Demeter, and ACSI Europe Consultant Liviu Caprar, encouraged teachers to lead as mentors who develop a collaborative atmosphere in their classrooms. We were also addressed by Alex Szucs from the school inspectorate, and the pastor, David Gabriel, of Harul Baptist Church.

liviu ro24The day also included a workshop session where teachers had the opportunity to engage with topics in an interactive way facilitated by experienced peers.

We are very grateful to Harul Baptist Church, and Mr. Emmanual Olariu, Mrs. Claudia Filea and their team at Şcoala Gimnaziala Harul who not only coordinated the event but also prepared and served a delicious lunch.

These events are examples of the ongoing ministry of ACSI in partnership with the Christian school movement in Romania since 1991. Teacher events have taken place every year since 2012 and have formed a beautiful role in strengthening the quality of Christ-centered teaching as well as the fellowship and community of Romanian teachers from across the country.

Digital Citizenship Education from a Christian Perspective

The Council of Europe’s framework, “Easy Steps to Help Learners Become Digital Citizens” (2023), defines three domains for development: Being Online, Well-Being Online, and Rights Online. But what does digital citizenship mean for Christian schools whose mission is grounded in Scripture rather than in secular definitions of the human person and society?

SLC report 2025

Praise the Lord for His faithfulness and blessings poured out during the ACSI Student Leadership Conferences (SLC) this year! These gatherings brought together students and chaperones from 47 schools across Europe for a time of worship, discipleship, and leadership growth centered on the theme “Leaders Who Love Truth.”

Strengthening Critical Thinking

Christian schools are often intentional about teaching worldview and preparing students to engage with competing ideas. Yet the way we structure this engagement can either nurture deep critical thinking or unintentionally foster shallow habits of argument. Here are some practical tools to support critial thinking in the classroom.
